D: What, pray tell, are we preparing for?

A: . . . um, May Day? Beltane?

D: Really? Because I’m pretty certain that Prepare Ye the way of the Lord has nothing to do with Beltane.

A: Not even if we’re going to Sing About Love?

D: . . . Still not going with it. In theory, perhaps. But in function? No.

A: Killjoy. Okay, then we are preparing to edit the now-completed first draft of the Changelings sequel, The Coming Storm.

D: Preparing to edit? Preparing?! What have you been doing all week, then?

A: Well, I put the two narratives together, but after that, I decided I really ought to play candy crush. And clean out my email folders. And then I did a fair bit of staring off into space lamenting the death of my iPod.

D: Overlooking your gross negligence, allow me to extend my deepest sympathy. Would you like a moment of silence?

A: Nice, D. Silence is the problem. There’s been altogether too much silence. And stop mocking me.

D (Hides grin) But you’re not music-less. You’ve been playing the same bloody dirge—

A: It’s not a dirge, it’s a drumming song.

D: . . .

A: Okay, so when it and it’s fellows are on repeat it may sound a bit dirge-ish.  I can’t help it. Florence and her machines, The Hobbit and Godspell are the only decent things on my backup Nano. Well, that and Christmas music. While I do love me a good Adeste Fidelis –

D: Oh boy, do you ever – how many copies of that song do you have?

A: 10. What’s your point?

D: You only need 1, A.

A: In that, you are gravely mistaken.

D: So, is doing something about this musical wasteland one of the things for which you must ‘prepare?’

A: Yup. I’m taking steps (Yes, we are participating in Building Rome over at Green Embers. Check it out). The first of which is to quit my whining and take the Christmas music off the Nano. It’s cold enough out there without me singing Jingle Bells.

D: Can you stop linking people to the Christmas music?!

A: What? It’s what came on this week – which was really rather a kick to the head.

D: Oh boy. Is that your only goal for the week?

A: No – you can stop tapping your foot at me, Druid. I’m going to see if I can’t hit the half-way mark on editing The Coming Storm.

D: And . . .?

A: You just can’t let it be, can you?

D: Nope.

A: Fine – there’s also some research I need to do – mostly radio control room protocol in WW2, and herbal remedies used in the Highlands of Scotland in the mid 1700s. If anyone knows anything about either of those, and would be pleased as punch to let me pick their brain, drop me a line in comments!

D: You make that sound so appealing. . . you are essentially offering to turn into a zombie in exchange for information.

A: Well, that is how editing makes me feel, so however picturesque my cliché there was, it works.

D: . . .

A: Okay, so I have another goal, and that’s to write a review of About Time for Green Embers Recommends, and catch up on my favorite Bayou chronicle over at Helena’s.

D: Lovely. Now, may I suggest a little less conversation and some more action on your part?

A: I don’t think that means what you want it to mean, D.

D: I let you use “Let it Be.”

A: Point taken.

D: And so?

A: And so, we shall bid the blog a fond adieu for the evening – thank you so much for reading & have a great night!

  1. These are great, Katie! Love your eclectic taste–much like mine. I’m sure we’re cut from the same cloth there!

    Sorry to hear about your iPod 😦 I had that happen to me a couple of weeks ago and I nearly died thinking I had to get another iPod classic. Well, somehow, I had unplugged it before ejecting once it finished syncing and all the music had vanished. I couldn’t even connect it to my laptop because the laptop didn’t recognize it. Yikes! Luckily, I connected it to my wife’s laptop and was able to restore it, which, in turn, allowed me to hook it back up to my iTunes and re-sync all my tunes to the thing! Whew! What an exhausting process, but I didn’t lose anything and I remembered one thing: Always eject the iPod from iTunes before disconnecting! 🙂

      Those musical beasties really are exhausting – but oh so worth it! I’m happy to say my Nano is now christmas-music-free, and thus listenable, again!

  2. So sorry about your iPod, Katie! The hard drive on my iPod Classic died a few months ago. I had only had the iPod for 4 years so I was not happy 😦 I had EVERYTHING on it (stores about 160 GB of data), and syncing was so easy because I could sync EVERYTHING. In desperation, I bought a Nano and I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love taking it on walks with me because I can just clip it to my shirt. But I hate having to select what I can sync to it because it has so much less space than the Classic. In the meantime, my husband bought a new hard drive for the Classic and installed it. It works again, but I gave it to him because I bought the Nano. We both have iPod minis from the early 2000s, but 8 GB? I got so spoiled with my Classic 😦

    1. That is exactly how I feel! I love how small it is, and I think for walks alone its the one I’m going to stick with – I’ll just have to remember to synch it more often to ensure a good variety of music.

    1. I may end up switching, eventually – but I do love my dear Boo (my pac-man esque speaker for the ipod/Nano). Luckily, I did clear out the music last night, and I’m sitting pretty with 1K+ songs again, but it’s a lot like someone moved my cheese! 🙂

  5. I mourn the loss of your iPod. I think D should put together a nice eulogy to give it a good send off.

    Godspell sounds like it is going to be terrific. On a side note, have you noticed that that you can’t watch music videos on WordPress any longer? Any youtube embedded music video tells me I need to go to YouTube (which I did). I seriously got chills watching Let it Be. I need to watch Across the Universe methinks.

    1. Darn it! I didn’t test them when I did preview! Shoot. I’ll need to look into that. That version of let it be is spectacular! Very powerful, and you must watch Across the Universe. Excellent film!

      1. It’s something new that has been happening. It seems like the music studios only want their music videos watched on YouTube? Seems counter-intuitive to the idea of a music video… I don’t get it.

      2. Probably the idea that if you really want it, you have to pay some sort of streaming service to get it thru their venues and devices? I dunno, these things confuse me.

    2. So, did you look at the videos on a device, or on you computer? Because they all work on my comp, but last night, when I was on my phone, only the second Godspell video worked… bloody YouTube.

  6. There is an iPod sitting in a charger in my living room that has been there since we married, I think, five years ago. It has all the music my husband and I owned when we got married on it. Mostly classic rock. I don’t think either one of us has ever taken it off the stand to listen to it. My daughter borrowed it once. If not for sentimental value I would mail it to you.

    1. Oh, no worries! We have a Nano that The Boy and I share, and I just took all the Xmas music off of it so it was listenable again! Will have to get another one soon, though – maybe for schools-end.

  7. I have an iPod Classic I thought I could never live without. Can’t remember the last time I used it now though. I generally use my iPad now or my phone. Hope you figure something out soon before D bops you on the head 😉

    1. Luckily, I just got the nano sorted, so we have listenable music again. So long as the boy can stand sharing it with me, that is! We’ll probably get another Nano or shuffle at the end of the school year.
