My official author bio says I’m descended of pirates and revolutionaries – and it’s true: My mother’s people claim Grace O’Malley as a distant relative (but I think most O’Malleys do – and there are a lot of O’Malleys!), and my paternal grandfather fought in the 1916 Rising, but refused to fight his fellows in the Civil War.
It’s also true that I am a lover and student of all things Irish – and Scottish. Born in the States, I am a dual US/Irish citizen, and studied history and politics at University College, Dublin – although, at the time, I seriously considered switching to law, if only so I could attend lectures at the castle on campus.
I live in the American Midwest with my daughter, two cats and a pesky character in my head named D (but you can call him Dubh).

It started with a few snarky notes in the margin of a manuscript and turned into a blog full of nerdy pop culture and flash fiction. It has since turned into an Author page, with updates, appendices and all-around interesting information on the World of the Changelings.
The D/A Dialogues – What are they?
The D/A Dialogues: Exploring the sometimes-fractious relationship between an author and the character in her head as they go about writing a book together.
D: The Druid, also known as Dubh an Súile mac Alasdair. D is a 1300 year-old Pict who took up residence in A’s mind over 13 years ago. He is a Druid, a warrior-prince and a time traveler. He also impersonates a god from time to time, when it suits his purposes.
A: The author, also known as Katie Sullivan. A has been sitting on D’s story for over 13 years. Fed up with his snarky comments in the back of her mind, A is determined to redraft his chronicle, and make it resemble something readable – timey-wimey plot holes notwithstanding.
